Do You Have Wrinkles or Bumps Carpet |
|
Don’t be fooled, some companies use a kicker to stretch carpet. The kicker is meant to set the carpet, not stretch the carpet. A power stretcher will get your carpet closer to factory specs. When a carpet is stretched, in most cases the whole room needs to be stretched. One little area, say in the middle of the room, if we try to stretch just the middle of the room, the bump will just move to either side of where it was, THE WHOLE ROOM NEEDS STRETCHED. Do I need to empty the room? It is best, but many times we can work with the furniture. There is an additional cost if we do have to empty the room or rooms of furniture. No matter which way it is done, you are responsible for removing all breakables and electronic type equipment.
Please let us know if this helps inform about stretching and let us know if there is anything else that can be added to better help inform you about stretching. Thank you, Front Range Carpet Care |

Carpet Stretching Do you have wrinkles in your carpet? If the answer is yes, then you probably need to have your carpet re-stretched. To test this out, go to the middle of your room and grab a tuft of carpet. Lift the carpet up and let it go. If it doesn't pop right back down, then it is too loose. After a few years, the backing of your carpet begins to stretch out and your carpeting will no longer have the correct tension on it. Loose carpet can wear out at a quicker rate and is an eyesore. If your carpeting is less than 1 years old, you should check your warranty. Most carpet comes with a 1 year labor warranty which will cover re-stretching. If you are past the warranty period, then unfortunately the cost is yours. How are the carpet wrinkles corrected? Front Range Carpet Care can easily repair this. This is not an area for a novice. Special techniques are used to ensure a good final result. We will detach the carpet from the tack strip and re-stretch it from wall to wall. We usually have to cut off several inches of the carpeting since it has physically stretched out. We may also have to redo seams at doorways and closets. It can be quite a task, almost as labor intensive as the original carpet install, but it is well worth it. A properly stretched carpet will last longer, look better and be safer to walk on without the wrinkles and bumps |

Guidance for Re-stretching Buckles, wrinkles, and bubbles normally do not occur with properly stretched-in carpet. Power stretching following these recommendations should correct the situation when these conditions arise. · Remove all furniture from each room. · Loosen the carpet from all tack strip. · Check that all tack strip is firmly anchored to floor. The proper gully for the tack strip is slightly less than the thickness of the carpet, and not exceeding 3/8 inch. Check for cushion (padding) that may have bunched up under the carpet because of inadequate fastening of the cushion. Check for delamination of the secondary backing. Correct all of these conditions before proceeding. · The seams are to be cut open at all doorways, and the edges at the seams are to be sealed or buttered before re-seaming. · Using a power stretcher, not a knee-kicker, the carpet is to be stretched 1% to 1˝% in each direction in each room. · Any device that may cause injury, damage carpet or sub floors, or result in an inadequate amount of stretch is not acceptable as a substitute for or an attachment to a power stretcher. · Restretching one room and not restretching an adjoining room or hallway will likely allow wrinkles to reappear. · Most floor vents and doorways will require pieces to be seamed into the carpet as the carpet is repositioned with power stretching. · Edges of carpet that will be placed under a metal strip should be sealed with seam sealer adhesive to deter raveling. Exposed edges fitted to a hard surface flooring should also be sealed. · Follow all installation guidelines as listed in the Carpet and Rug Institute Residential Carpet Installation |
